Bitter Neumann Appliance Furniture Mattress is proud to celebrate a CENTURY serving the community! Fourth-generation owner Dan, along with his 35 employees, still believes in the philosophy of treating the customer the way they deserve to be treated. The goal has always been, and will continue to be, to provide the lakeshore communities of Sheboygan and Manitowoc with the best selection and top brands of appliances, furniture, and mattresses, offered by knowledgeable sales specialists who are passionate about helping each customer find the items just right for them.
What started out as a general store in 1922 purchased by Alfred Bitter, Sr. at the age of 21 in Millersville, expanded into a new store in Howards Grove in 1971, doubling the size of the original building. By 1953, both of Alfred’s sons, Harold and Alfred, Jr., had joined the business, which offered groceries, hardware, appliances, sporting goods, and about anything else imaginable, as well as TV and appliance repair shops. In 1983, to better serve its city customers, Bitter Neumann & Co. added a second location in Sheboygan, in the former D.J. Nelesen building, a major furniture and appliance dealer. Edgar and Janet Radue, Harold’s son-in-law and daughter, took ownership of the Sheboygan store in October 1990, and the two locations served the lakeshore area until 1992 when the Sheboygan store became the sole location. In 2007, ownership changed hands to Ed’s and Jan’s sons Tim and Dan, and in 2012, they opened a second location in Manitowoc. Dan become sole owner of Bitter Neumann in June 2020. In October 2021, he took ownership of Hansen Furniture Appliance Mattress, a well-established store in Waupaca, Wisconsin.
Over the years, Bitter Neumann has grown to become the Lakeshore’s largest independently owned Appliance, Furniture and Mattress dealer.
